Mykeyz

Michael Woods, aka Mykeyz, rose to the #1 spot on billboard comedy charts in May 2011 with his Emmy- and Grammy-nominated single “Jack Sparrow,” performed by the comical music group, The Lonely Island. Not only has this song become a hit in America, it is making waves abroad. Besides climbing to #3 on the US Billboard 200 Album chart and being listed on the US Billboard Hot 100, it has charted in several different countries, including Sweden, Norway, Canada, Australia, and the UK. It was ranked #3 for being the Most Globally Watched Video of 2011.
“Jack Sparrow” was featured on SNL, Access Hollywood, Good Morning America, and The Today Show. During the 2011 Emmy Awards program, the song proved to be a winner with the audience when the talents of the SNL crew, Michael Bolton, andAkon were showcased. Mykeyz currently carries a 2011 Emmy nomination for Outstanding Music and Lyrics and a 2012 Grammy nomination for Best Comedy Album with his production of “Turtleneck & Chain.”
While Mykeyz attributes his professional success primarily to the love of his parents and the family values they established, he does acknowledge his inheritance of musicianship from some of his ancestors; solid training from some excellent teachers; and hours upon hours of practice and hard work daily. He honed his skills as a saxophonist in public schools, and as a classical pianist under private tutelage. He dedicated himself to serious study of music theory and music technology both inside and outside high school and college classrooms.
Unfulfilled by the music he played in his high school marching, concert, and jazz bands, Mykeyz was driven to create music of his own- music with the sparks and thrills that characterized his passion. So at age fifteen, he set up a home studio that consisted of a Yamaha keyboard and a Radio Shack karaoke microphone. By the time he settled into his college dormitory room, his dormwas converted into a more functional studio, including the addition of a MacBook Pro to his equipment. Impressed by the sounds of his original works, (which were heavily influenced by his father’s favorite sounds from the R&B of the 1970s), friends began requesting that Mykeyz produce tracks for their demos.
Soon thereafter, a friend of a friend scheduled a meeting for the eighteen-year-old, college freshman, to discuss a publishing contract with Water Music Publishing, Inc. The contract was signed! Mykeyz had officially landed in a place where he could nurture his skills as a music producer. The publishing company facilitated his first placement, The Lonely Island, featuring Michael Bolton singing “Jack Sparrow.” Its success took off at full blast!
